TransAlta completes sale of Calgary head office building

CALGARY, Alberta (May 9, 2003) - TransAlta Corporation (TSX: TA; NYSE: TAC) announced today it has finalized the sale of its head office building in Calgary, Alberta to Forum Leasehold Partners Inc. for $66 million. Proceeds will be redeployed into TransAlta's core business of electricity generation and wholesale marketing. TransAlta will lease back the property for a term of 20 years.

TransAlta Place is comprised of three buildings from two to 10 storeys containing 335,000 square feet of rentable area. The complex serves as corporate headquarters for over 500 TransAlta head office employees.

TransAlta is Canada's largest non-regulated power generation and wholesale marketing company. We have close to $9 billion in coal-fired, gas-fired, hydro and renewable generation assets in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Australia. With approximately 10,000 megawatts of capacity either in operation, under construction or in development, our focus is to efficiently operate our assets in order to provide our wholesale customers with a reliable, low-cost source of power.
