WBAL-TV Sunday Q&A Session with Ken DeFontes

July 10, 2011

9:30 a.m. ET

Jennifer Franciotti (WBAL TV): It’s time for our Sunday morning Q&A and joining us this morning is Ken DeFontes, president and CEO of BGE. Good morning.

Ken DeFontes (BGE): Good morning

JF: Thanks for joining us.

KD: Thank you for having me.

JF: Well let’s talk a little bit about the merger between Constellation and Exelon. How’s it going?

KD: It’s going very well; we’re very excited about the potential benefits that it will bring to Maryland. We’ve put together a package worth $250 million dollars, including a $100 credit for every customer of BGE. We’re also looking forward to working with Exelon. They are a very good company and we think they’ll bring a lot of better practices that we can implement, and we are also committing that it will be net jobs positive for Maryland.

JF: Any idea when all of this is going to take place?

KD: We’re in the process of the regulatory approvals now, so we filed with the federal government and we’re also in Maryland. Those hearings will be held in early November and we hope to get approval in January.

JF: Ok, so that means some time next year customers will see that $100 credit if it is approved.

KD: That’s correct.
