Express Scripts, Medco Share Similar Corporate Values

A large part of corporate culture is defined by an organization’s values, and for Express Scripts and Medco, those values have a lot in common.

Having a values-based culture is what drives corporate success. Those corporate attributes — for both Express Scripts and Medco — are infused in the way we work with our clients and the way we do business. They are the guiding principles that drive our success. Specifically, our values define the “how” and “why” behind everything we do.

As we move through the integration process, the Leadership Team has found many similarities between our corporate values and those of Medco. Melanie Curtis, vice president, Talent Management & Organization Development, says those similarities can serve as a starting point for integration success.

“Express Scripts and Medco are both highly successful organizations, and a common trait of all successful organizations is to have clearly stated goals and a commitment to reaching those goals,” Melanie says. “We are guided by The Express Way values, and Medco is guided by their values. There are some obvious similarities among our stated values, but there also are some differences.”

The Express Way   Medco Values

•   Integrity

•   Business With Integrity

•   Mutual Respect

•   Passion For Customers

•   Passion

•   Speed Without Compromise

•   Alignment

•   Owning Our Actions

•   Collaboration

•   Strength Through Teamwork

•   Service

•   Inspire Others to Excel

“They may not use the same words, but the sentiment is the same,” Melanie says. “Where we have Collaboration, they use Strength Through Teamwork.”

Parallels also can be drawn between The Express Way value of Integrity and Medco’s values of Business With Integrity and Owning Our Actions, as well as The Express Way value of Passion and Medco’s Passion For Customers.

Melanie says staying committed to our values will help guide the integration process and ensure its success.

“Working through differences while ensuring commitment to common values helps to drive a successful integration,” Melanie says. “Remaining committed to our corporate values is the responsibility of every leader and every employee.”
