Item 5.02 Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.
On May 24, 2010 the Board of Directors of Popular, Inc. (the “Corporation”) announced that effective May 24, 2010 David H. Chafey Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer, will no longer be employed by the Corporation. The change was prompted by differing views regarding the Corporation’s ongoing management structure and no irregularities were involved.
The Board has appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard L. Carrión as President, and he will continue to lead the management team currently in place. The position of Chief Operating Officer will not be filled at this time.
