Earlier this month the Japan Times reported a shift in COVID-19 protocols toward a "living with COVID-19" phase which the Kishida administrations hopes will "mitigate the spread of infections but also boost the economy." That news came last Friday, September 23, 2022, when the Japan Times reported "Japan will allow visa-free, independent tourism and abolish its daily arrival cap as of Oct. 11." The report noted that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced the re-opening during his September 22nd visit to New York for the U.N. General Assembly.
