The symposium brings together healthcare leaders across clinical disciplines to discuss how COVID-19 has affected drug diversion in the hospital space

This continuing education event for pharmacists, accredited for three credit hours by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), will feature healthcare leaders across a diverse clinical background and their experience with preventing drug diversion in their institutions.

The symposium features presenters from the pharmacy and nursing departments of leading health systems including Jefferson Hospital of Allegheny Health Network, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Sandee Seeley, RN, MSN, RN-BC, is a nurse manager at Jefferson Hospital and will walk attendees through the nursing perspective on diversion and benefits of a prominent nursing role in a controlled substance diversion program and committee. Cathy Richwine, RPh, BCSCP, is a Clinical Pharmacist and Catherine Floroff, PharmD, BCCCP, BCPS, is the Team Coordinator in Pharmacy at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. They will explore lessons learned from using various diversion monitoring technology in efforts to minimize organizational risk.

“COVID-19 has sadly exacerbated the opioid epidemic, with overdose deaths increasing to all-time high levels,” said Kevin MacDonald, co-founder and CEO of Kit Check. “I am glad we are able to elevate the experience of industry leaders who have helped to curb drug diversion in their organizations and share that experience with a wider network of hospital clinicians. There are proven strategies and technologies to include in a best practice diversion prevention program, and we at Kit Check want to ensure this information is readily available to healthcare leaders”.
