Morrow Sodali Continues its Ranking Climb – Now #1 in M&A and #2 in Activism

Morrow Sodali, the global shareholder engagement and governance consulting firm, announced that it had been ranked #1 among proxy solicitors in U.S M&A transactions for the first quarter of 2021 by The Deal, continuing the firm’s #1 ranking for the full year 2020 and up from the firm’s #3 position in the first quarter of 2020. In addition, Morrow Sodali climbed to the #2 position among proxy solicitors acting for corporate clients in activism situations in 2020, moving up from the #4 position in Refinitiv’s Global Shareholder Activism Scorecard announced last month.

“I am very pleased to see our investments in M&A and Activism advisory services paying off,” said Morrow Sodali CEO Alvise Recchi. “We have continued to invest in our business and our people throughout the pandemic, ensuring that we are able to meet our clients’ needs in these extraordinary times.”

M&A transaction volume increased significantly for Morrow Sodali in 2020. The firm acted as proxy solicitor or information agent on 72 deals, an increase of 64% from the firm’s 44 transactions in 2019. Activism activity was also up substantially for Morrow Sodali in 2020. Clients relied on Morrow Sodali’s advisory services in 47 campaigns last year, up 57% over the 30 campaigns Morrow Sodali handled in 2019.

“While the number of activism situations as a whole declined from 2019 to 2020, we were pleased to see the number of campaigns in which clients chose to involve Morrow Sodali increased, allowing us to significantly improve our market ranking,” stated Harry van Dyke, Morrow Sodali’s Executive Vice Chairman. “Additionally, our leadership position in handling SPAC M&A transactions allowed us to make a similar move in M&A rankings, increasing our market share and retaining the #1 position in the first quarter of this year.”
