DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas Has Approved More Than 1,000 Dallas Families for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program

$7.3 million in rental assistance is already approved and DHA has resources available to assist more families

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas (DHA) announced today in the first six weeks of the initiative the agency has approved more than 1,000 eligible Dallas families for assistance through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which equates to a commitment of over $7.3 million in rent payments. The agency has developed an efficient process for people to apply with some applicants receiving approval for assistance within one week.

DHA encourages eligible Dallas residents and landlords to apply for assistance while resources are still available at: DallasRentRelief.com.

Through the program, DHA is able to provide up to 12 months of rent assistance to applicants and landlords. Applications can be submitted online from a computer, tablet or other mobile device. Assistance is provided as a grant and is not a loan to be repaid.

“Our team has developed a very efficient and user-friendly platform allowing us to rapidly process applications and process payments,” said Dr. Myriam Igoufe, vice president of Policy Development and Research at DHA. “We are committed to helping as many Dallas residents as possible, so if you need help paying rent, we encourage you to apply.”

Applicants should have a housing income at or below 80 percent of the median income for the City of Dallas. For example, a family of three should have an income of $64,100 or less to qualify. The full median income chart is provided on the application site for reference.

DHA will give priority to applicants who have a household income that is at or below 50 percent of the median income for Dallas, or for those who have experienced unemployment for 90 days or more.

“We hope to help as many people as possible avoid evictions due to the financial hardships associated with the pandemic,” said Troy Broussard, president and chief executive officer of DHA. “If you are a landlord with tenants who are behind in rent, we strongly encourage you to apply for assistance on their behalf. We are starting to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and we have to work together to make it through this challenging time.”
