DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas Launches Two Community Hubs Onsite at Public Housing Communities in Collaboration With Parkland Health

Onsite community hubs are accessible to DHA residents on a weekly basis through both in-person services and virtual care

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas (DHA) has launched onsite community hubs at two residential public housing communities in partnership with Parkland Health. These hubs provide various in-person services for DHA residents and the public including health screenings, financial assistance for healthcare, community resources and virtual medical visits.

The onsite community hubs are located at two DHA-owned affordable housing properties including Park Manor and Buckeye Commons. Buckeye properties include Buckeye Trail Family Residences, Buckeye Senior Living and Buckeye Trail Apartments. Services at Park Manor are available every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and at Buckeye Commons every Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Virtual care is also available by appointment every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Parkland’s MyChart application.

DHA is the tenth largest public housing authority (PHA) in the nation. The agency provides affordable housing opportunities for over 55,700 people through public housing communities and the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program.

“We are excited for our continued partnership with Parkland Health as we address the needs of our residents. These community health hubs at Park Manor and Buckeye provide pathways for our residents to enhance their quality of life through vital health services. DHA is a mission-driven organization that believes our communities are stronger when everyone has a chance to thrive. We are eager to continue our vision to create positive change through collaborations with valued partners like Parkland Health,” says DHA president and CEO, Troy Broussard.

DHA is one of the largest developers of affordable housing in North Texas. The agency provides access to a variety of supportive services for residents including healthcare, education, employment and training resources, resident leadership, family self-sufficiency programs, homeownership programs, veterans affairs supportive housing and more.

“We worked with DHA to prequalify housing applicants for presumptive eligibility in Parkland’s financial assistance program. The program creates a proactive approach where DHA promotes health ownership among applicants and provides an essential service for individuals working to improve their physical, mental and financial health,” said Fred Cerise, MD, Parkland’s president and CEO.

One of Parkland’s priorities in addressing health disparities is expanding access through strategic partnerships with trusted organizations like DHA.

“Parkland and Dallas County Health and Human Services conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify the geographic areas and populations that experience the most significant health disparities. The study found that there is a high rate of uninsured individuals in Dallas County and a general lack of health literacy across our communities,” said Grace Mathew, Innovation Programs Specialist at Parkland Health. “Parkland’s partnership with DHA through the Care & Coverage program helps address health disparities and brings important services to the people that need it the most.”

“Transportation is a large barrier for low-income individuals that we serve. Being on-site at our community hubs removes a huge barrier for residents. Ultimately, we want to make sure our communities are well taken care of. DHA has a longstanding footprint in Dallas County, and we are proud to partner with a trusted organization that helps us expand our footprint,” said Mathew.
