DHA Streamlines Its Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) Process With Artificial Intelligence-Based Platform Bob.Ai

Housing Choice Voucher Clients and Landlords Are Able To Complete RFTA Submissions and Inspections Online

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas (DHA) has launched a new artificial-intelligence-based module for Housing Choice Voucher program clients and landlords to manage the Request for Tenancy Approval process and documentation all online via its Bob.Ai platform.

The Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) is a form that the voucher holder and the landlord need to complete in order for DHA to start the process of determining if the unit the tenant applied for qualifies for the Housing Choice Voucher program. Now landlords and prospective tenants can e-sign the RFTA, electronically complete additional forms and safely upload required documents — no more trips to an office, faxing, or mailing necessary.

DHA provides 16,000 households comprising ~40,000 people with housing assistance in the private rental market through the Housing Choice Voucher program, and it has 5,000 landlords in its network who rent to qualified DHA tenants. This is the eighth largest Housing Choice Voucher program in the nation.

“We are thrilled to provide this tool that makes the Housing Choice Voucher program more efficient and effective for our families and landlord partners across North Texas,” said Troy Broussard, president and chief executive officer for DHA. “In its first few weeks of deployment we have seen this tool effectively reduce 3-4 days from the process. Some families have been able to complete the RFTA submission process and inspections in one week. This is a major improvement for the tenants and landlords who want to have a smooth and timely move-in process.”

“HUD supports DHA’s efforts to make the Housing Choice Voucher program more efficient for families and landlords,” says Dominique Blom, General Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. “We applaud DHA simplifying the delivery of rental assistance through the use of technology.”

In addition to managing the RFTA and inspections processes via Bob.Ai, tenants can search for vacancies and connect with their case managers online. Landlords and property owners can publish vacancies on the platform for free, providing them with the ability to reach thousands of qualified renters each day.
