Project Management Institute Adds New PMI Citizen Developer™ Business Architect Micro-Credential to its Industry Leading Roster of Citizen Development Resources

The new PMI Citizen Developer Business Architect micro-credential is the latest addition to the PMI Citizen Developer resource suite aimed at helping organizations unlock the full potential of citizen development

Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading association for the project management profession, today announced the addition of the new PMI Citizen Developer™ Business Architect micro-credential to its suite of platform-agnostic educational resources and set of global industry standards, best practices, and methodologies. PMI Citizen Developer™ Business Architect joins PMI Citizen Developer™ Foundation and PMI Citizen Developer™ Practitioner, the preceding citizen development courses offered by PMI that introduce citizen development best practices and the tools and methodologies needed to create effective and scalable applications.

The PMI Citizen Developer Business Architect micro-credential covers the methodologies needed to manage the governance processes, organizational structures, and stakeholder collaboration critical to implementing citizen development across an organization. The PMI Citizen Developer Business Architect micro-credential can be taken in full or as four individual mini-courses, which allows learners to tailor their educational journey to their individual needs.

“Organizations implementing citizen development now are ensuring they will be able to thrive in the new business landscape and meet the challenges of tomorrow,” said Sam Sibley, Global Head of PMI Citizen Developer. “To implement citizen development effectively, organizations need to generate enterprise wide buy in and ensure they are scaling in concert with existing IT governance. This means training Business Architects to ensure the necessary protocols, operating model and governance structures are in place.”

With increased demands on IT departments and software developers stretched too thin, professionals and organizations are turning to citizen development to help deliver business solutions more quickly and take some of the pressure off IT. Forrester estimates that in just two years, the U.S. will have a deficit of 500,000 software developers and similarly, Gartner predicts that citizen developers using low-code and no-code platforms will be responsible for more than 65 percent of application-development activity by 2024. In response to this increased need, PMI has used its deep knowledge of global standards to develop the industry’s first set of global industry standards, best practices, and methodologies for citizen development to help implement citizen development responsibly and to scale, and helps organizations prepare their workforces to adopt new and future ways of working more effectively and efficiently.
