Greenspace Health & the Community Behavioral Health Association of Maryland Driving Significant Improvements in Behavioral Health Services Across the State

Today, Greenspace Health, a leader in transforming behavioral health services through Measurement-Based Care (MBC), and the Community Behavioral Health Association of Maryland (MDCBH) are proud to announce the continued success of their coordinated MBC implementation project, now entering its third year. This collaborative effort has brought about significant improvements in behavioral healthcare quality and collaboration amongst service organizations across Maryland, demonstrating the ability of data-driven insights to drastically enhance clinical outcomes. The coordinated pilot, initiated in 2020, started with 16 clinics across the state, including 690 clinicians, serving over 9800 clients across Maryland. In 2023, Measurement-Based Care implementation includes nearly 900 clinicians servicing more than 20,000 clients.

MBC MOMENTUM IN MARYLAND

  • 82% Average Therapeutic Alliance
  • 44% Average Symptom Improvement
  • 85% Assessment Completion Rate
  • 51% GAD-7 (Anxiety) Recovery Rate
  • 48% PHQ-9 (Depression) Recovery Rate

“Over the last three years, MDCBH and Greenspace have worked together to build an expansive data strategy and dashboard that empowers members with a high-level look at outcomes while being able to dive deep into any subset of data to help drive their services forward.” said Shannon Hall, Executive Director, CBH Maryland. “As a result, we see regular improvements in outcome data, including a 51% recovery rate for the GAD-7 and 48% for the PHQ-9 , meaning that around 50% of clients who were symptomatic for anxiety and depression on their first assessment have since recovered. This data has been vital to demonstrate the efficacy of services across Maryland and empower our collaborative working group with visibility into real-time, objective clinical outcomes to inform quality improvement.”

“MDCBH and the participating clinics are leading the way with Measurement-Based Care and it’s having a palpable impact on the State as a whole,” said Simon Weisz, President, Greenspace Health. “There is growing momentum for MBC in Maryland being driven by many clinical and system leaders prioritizing MBC as a foundational component of evidence based service delivery, as they recognize its importance in ensuring high-quality care. This prioritization is clear in the recently announced $120 million in grant funding by the Maryland Consortium on Coordinated Community Support, which strongly encourages the implementation of MBC by providers working in school settings. It is very promising to see Maryland’s Consortium working to drive improvement and innovation across their behavioral health services.”
