With 20% of Canadians struggling to afford groceries this December, the Nextdoor Foundation supports Food Banks Canada in its mission to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow

As people in Canada struggle with food insecurity more than ever, the Nextdoor Foundation, a non-profit inspired by the neighbourhood connections fostered by Nextdoor Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: NXDR), has donated $70,000 CAD to Food Banks Canada to address this growing issue through the holidays and into the new year.

Food insecurity continues to be a pressing issue across Canada. New research from Nextdoor Canada, conducted in partnership with Angus Reid, shows that 20% of Canadians say they are currently struggling to afford groceries, while 39% report personally knowing someone facing food insecurity. With nearly 2.2 million Canadians expected to rely on food banks this month, the scale and urgency of the challenge is impossible to ignore.

More findings from the survey include:

• 60% of Canadians plan to donate or have already donated to a local food bank or food drive in their neighbourhood
  • With those the most likely to donate being those aged 55+ (70%), residents in British Columbia (62%) and households that make over $100K (64%)
• However, only about half of Canadians (51%) are confident they know where their nearest food bank is. Nearly 1 in 3 (32%) simply do not know.
  • With smaller provinces (Atlantic Canada ranking 61% awareness) showing significantly higher food bank visibility than larger provinces (Ontario ranking 50% awareness)

The Nextdoor Foundation has granted $70,000 CAD to support Food Banks Canada’s mission to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow. These funds will help power long-term solutions, build resilience across the food banking network, and bring us closer to a Canada where no one goes hungry.

Methodology:

These findings are from a survey conducted by Category Communications from December 4th to December 8th, 2025, among a representative sample of 1508 online adult Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid Forum. The survey was conducted in English and French. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/-2.53 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
