Black Hat, the cybersecurity industry’s most established and in-depth security event series, today announced Mikko Hypponen, Chief Research Officer at WithSecure; Nicole Perlroth, Founding Partner at Silver Buckshot Ventures; Ron Deibert, Director at The Citizen Lab and Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto; Jennifer Granick, Surveillance and Cybersecurity Counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); and Chris Inglis, Former U.S. National Cyber Director, as Keynote speakers for Black Hat USA 2025. The Keynote speakers will present on Wednesday, August 6 and Thursday, August 7 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

New for 2025, the Keynote programming has expanded to include Keynote presentations throughout each main day of the event, which will be available in addition to the opening Keynotes that kick off each day of Briefings. The Keynote programming will include two Keynotes on Wednesday, August 6 and three Keynotes on Thursday, August 7.

Black Hat USA 2025 Keynote Lineup:

  • Wednesday, August 6 at 9:00 AM – Three Decades in Cybersecurity: Lessons Learned and What Comes Next
    • Speaker: This Keynote will be presented by Mikko Hypponen, Chief Research Officer at WithSecure. For over thirty years, Hypponen has been at the front lines of malware research, and since 1991, has investigated and responded to some of the most significant cyber outbreaks in history.
    • Topic: In this Keynote, Hypponen will journey through the most pivotal shifts in cyber-attacks to offer an informed look ahead at what is likely to come next.
    • Location: Michelob ULTRA Arena within the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
  • Wednesday, August 6 at 1:30 PM – Chasing Shadows: Chronicles of Counter-Intelligence from the Citizen Lab
    • Speaker: This Keynote will be presented by Ron Deibert, Director at The Citizen Lab and Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. As Director of the Citizen Lab, Deibert has overseen as principal investigator and been a contributing author to more than 180 reports covering path-breaking research on cyber espionage, commercial spyware, internet censorship, and human rights.
    • Topic: In this Keynote, Deibert will draw from his latest book, Chasing Shadows, to recount how the mission of The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto to conduct "counter-intelligence for civil society" uncovered domestic espionage campaigns across the globe.
    • Location: Oceanside A, Level 2 within the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
  • Thursday, August 7 at 9:00 AM – The New Frontline: Cyber on the Precipice
    • Speaker: This Keynote will be presented by Nicole Perlroth, Founding Partner at Silver Buckshot Ventures. Perlroth is a venture partner at Ballistic Ventures, managing director of her own cyber mission fund, Silver Buckshot, and previously served on the advisory committee of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) cyber defense agency, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Council on Foreign Relations’ Cyber Task Force.
    • Topic: In this Keynote, Perlroth will take to the stage with a stark warning: the threats we once chased have gone quiet, modular, and autonomous. Malware has given way to "living off the land," ransomware is a subscription service, and AI isn't just amplifying attacks—it's distorting reality itself.
    • Location: Michelob ULTRA Arena within the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
  • Thursday, August 7 at 10:20 AM – Threat Modeling and Constitutional Law
    • Speaker: This Keynote will be presented by Jennifer Granick, Surveillance and Cybersecurity Counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). As the surveillance and cybersecurity counsel with the ACLU Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, Granick litigates, speaks, and writes about privacy, security, technology, and constitutional rights.
    • Topic: In this Keynote, Granick will examine constitutional law doctrines' longstanding mistakes in threat modeling and highlight how these missteps can make it particularly difficult to navigate the evolving legal and political landscape.
    • Location: Oceanside D, Level 2 within the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
  • Thursday, August 7 at 1:30 PM – From Slide Rules to GenAi - Musings of a Graybeard Public Servant on What's Changing, What's Not, and What Should
    • Speaker: This Keynote will be presented by Chris Inglis, Former U.S. National Cyber Director. Previously, Inglis also served as a full-time member of the departments of Computer Science, Cyber Science, and Mechanical Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and the U.S. Naval Academy, and as a visiting professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
    • Topic: In this Keynote, Inglis will discuss how reliance on distributed digital infrastructure has created unprecedented opportunities alongside dangerous vulnerabilities, and why success requires integrating resilience with innovation, fostering unified coalitions, and adopting systems-level thinking that aligns technical, strategic, and human factors.
    • Location: Oceanside A, Level 2 within the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
