Plaintiff Emilia Wang Pursues Justice after Defendant Lama Norbu Avoids Response in Sexual Assault Case

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 25, 2016)—Emilia Wang, the plaintiff in a Los Angeles Superior Court sexual assault case, filed a Motion to Compel Responses against defendant Lama Norbu after he failed to respond to post judgment discovery. The discovery requests were served on Norbu in late March, inquiring about his post-judgment requesting a two-month extension to answer these discovery, Norbu remained silent. Norbu, a Yoga instructor and self-proclaimed “spiritual leader”, was found guilty of sexual assault and battery against Ms. Wang and ordered to pay $28,773.80 in December of 2015. In February of 2016 he filed an Appeal.

In her post-trial hearing set for August 11, 2016, Wang is also requesting sanctions against Norbu because she had to file the motions in order to force Norbu to comply with the law.

Douglas J. Pettibone and Craig Beauchamp, the Orange County attorneys who successfully tried the case, anticipate that the judge will “lower the hammer” on Norbu for not complying with court orders.

“Norbu’s failure to pay on the judgment just adds insult to the injury,” said attorney Douglas J. Pettibone. “The arm of the law is far-reaching, and we will pursue him until every dime awarded by the judge is paid.”

Pettibone further states that “the next round of motions will be to hold Norbu in contempt should he continue to turn his nose up to the judge’s order.” Contempt of court brings with it quasi-criminal proceeding, and Norbu would have to answer not only for his failure to pay on the judgment, but also for his failure to respond to post judgment discovery.
