“The spirit of giving back is at the heart of everything the NWFCU Foundation does,” said Executive Director, Alexzandra Shade. “#GivingTuesday is about giving to charities, and we were honored to use those donations to give back to our community at the same time.”

The week began with the opening of the NWFCU Foundation’s 2018 scholarship program, which has awarded $1.1 million since 2005, and a visit to Inova Cares Clinic for Children.

“We are thankful for the contribution made by Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation to the Inova Cares Clinic for Children,” said Vice President, Inova Community Health, Karen Berube. “These dollars will help us continue our mission to provide high quality medical care, education, and support services to Northern Virginia’s underserved population of women and children at the clinic sites. Our goal is to continuously improve the health and well-being of our patients and families in the community we serve.”

The week’s events also included a $1,000 donation to the mentorship program at Dranesville Elementary School in Herndon, Va. The NWFCU Foundation funded the donation with Northwest Federal’s own #GivingTuesday gift.

"It was wonderful to see our #GivingTuesday donation immediately paid forward to support the NWFCU Foundation mentor program with Dranesville," said Northwest Federal's President and CEO, Jeff Bentley. "This donation was especially meaningful to our employees, many of whom mentor children at the elementary school."
