IKEA Celebrates Grand Opening of Grand Prairie Store, Its Second in the Dallas Area

IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, today opened the doors of its Grand Prairie store to customers at 9 a.m. CST. Before the doors opened, store manager Matt Hunsicker, Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, the Swedish Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Göran Lithell and IKEA U.S. President Lars Petersson were present to welcome the community with a traditional Swedish log-sawing ceremony, bringing good luck to the new store and its guests.

The 290,000-square foot IKEA Grand Prairie store was built on 30 acres at the intersection of SH 161 and Mayfield Road and is the second IKEA store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Construction on a third Dallas-Fort Worth area store is scheduled to begin as soon as spring 2018, with a grand opening planned for summer 2019.

Beginning today, and through Sunday, December 17, IKEA Grand Prairie will recognize loyal, enthusiastic customers by giving away thousands of dollars in gift cards and merchandise. Also today, all STOCKHOLM rugs will be offered for $99, VIDGIS cushion covers will be offered at $4.00 and GURLI cushion covers will be offered at $2.00 in all IKEA stores nationwide and on IKEA-USA.com, while supplies last. Also, all IKEA FAMILY customers at IKEA stores nationwide can purchase three bags of any frozen meatballs (veggie, chicken or Swedish meatballs) for only $19.99.
