"We worked hard this past year with over a dozen training sessions at multiple tracks and running a couple late model races while I was pursuing the Super Cups Championship," remarked Tinkle. "The time behind the wheel in 2017 gave me a chance to experience working with the Lorz Motorsports team and helped me see what a great group they are and how hard they work together as a team. Mike Lorz has always been especially supportive of me and my racing. I'm really excited to be racing with them in the CRA/JEGS All-Stars Tour in 2018. The series has such a professional reputation for putting on quality events where drivers can really develop their skills."
While competing for and winning the Central States Region Super Cups Championship in his Mini-cup car during the 2017 season, Tinkle was training in a late model with Lorz Motorsports. He logged over 2,000 laps at five different tracks and competed in races at Grundy County Speedway and Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.
Tinkle was the 2016 Rockford Speedway Wild Wednesday Super Cup Champion. Tinkle was the 2015 Illinois Super Cup State Champion for the Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) and 2015 Rockford Speedway National Short Track Champion for Super Cups. Rockford Speedway awarded Tinkle the "Lead, Follow, or Get Out Of My Way" award for his 2015 season. Tinkle was named 2015 Most Improved Driver and 2014 Rookie of the Year for Central States Region (CSR) Super Cups.
"I look forward to working with Zachary in the upcoming JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season," remarked Mike Lorz. "We actually started working with Zachary in 2017 at Grundy County Speedway testing. Then we tested at a few JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Tracks like Baer Field Motorsports Park, Winchester Speedway, Anderson Speedway, then made his first appearance in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Fall Brawl event at Lucas Oil Raceway in September, where he did a nice job of staying out of the way and making laps and finished 17th!"
Lorz added, "Not only did we train on the track, but also in the shop during the winter learning how to work on the cars and understanding each component and how it works. So he understands how the race car works and feels when he is driving. One thing I let my young drivers know that finishing races is our number one goal, no matter where they finish, it will help their development. Damaging the car week in and out will not help him in any way. The Lorz Motorsports team is looking forward to working with Zachary and we both know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us to be the best!"
Lorz Motorsports has been competing with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour for several seasons. The team has fielded a car for rising late model star Austin Kunert in the series the last three seasons, finishing second in series points in 2016 and third in series points in 2017 and was awarded the 2017 PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Year Award. Lorz Motorsports will field a car for Kunert in the ARCA/CRA Super Series in 2018.
2018 will be the eighth season of competition for the crate late model touring series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. The 2018 point season will start on April 29th at Birch Run Speedway and will conclude on the High Banks of Winchester Speedway on October 12th. Past Champions with the series include 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year Erik Jones in 2011, NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Daniel Hemric in 2012 and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor Cody Coughlin in 2013 and again in 2016.
