Higher open on strong earnings

The markets opened higher with the Dow climbing 88 points to 25,050 on strong earnings. Nasdaq gained 51 points to 7261.


On the upside


The Trade Desk (Nasdaq: TTD) reported higher fourth quarter earnings and revenue.


Blue Buffalo Pet Products (Nasdaq: BUFF) will be acquired by General Mills (NYSE: GIS) for approximately $8 billion.


Planet Fitness (NYSE: PLNT) reported a smaller than expected loss for the fourth quarter.

On the downside


Fourth quarter earnings for Universal Display (Nasdaq: OLED) fell short of expectations.


Exact Sciences (Nasdaq: EXAS) reported a loss for the fourth quarter.


BRF (NYSE: BRFS) fell to a loss for the fourth quarter.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 gained 12 points to 2,715. Bitcoin surged $383 to $10,341.
