Markets soar as bond yields slide

Falling bond yields sent the markets soaring to a sharply higher close with the Dow vaulting 399 points to 25,709. Nasdaq leaped 84 points to 7421.


On the upside


The European Medicines Agency granted orphan drug designation to Achillion Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ACHN) for its ACH-4471 to treat C3 glomerulopathy.


Shares of Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ARWR) extended its gains.


Artal Group acquired 50,000 shares of Crispr Therapeutics (Nasdaq: CRSP).

On the downside


Telaria (NYSE: TLRA) reported a loss for the fourth quarter.


Fourth quarter earnings for Dean Foods (NYSE: DF) fell short of expectations.


Intelsat (NYSE: I) fell to a loss for the fourth quarter.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of 2 to 1 on the NYSE and by nearly 2 to 1 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 surged 32 points to 2,779. Bitcoin jumped $734 to $10,420.
