Florida Community Bank Assists First-Time and Veteran Homebuyers Achieve Their Dream of Homeownership

Florida Community Bank (FCB) is helping to make the homecoming of our servicemen and servicewomen more meaningful with an educational workshop to put them on the path to homeownership and to help them realize their dreams of owning their own homes in the Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie Communities.

The workshop, which is being co-sponsored by Florida Community Bank along with Genesys Community Development Corporation and Guidewell Financial Solutions, is being held at the Fort Pierce Women’s Club on June 2, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The education program also serves to further the goals of the area’s Restoring the Village revitalization and grassroots effort designed to work with citizens and local organizations to make Fort Pierce and the local community a safe and enjoyable place to live.

The First-Time & Veteran Homebuyer Workshop is a day-long, HUD-approved educational program designed to assist low- to moderate-income residents with understanding the homebuying process and to learn about programs and financing options available for first-time and veteran homebuyers. The financial literacy-focused workshop covers such topics as assessing one’s finances to prepare for homeownership, determining one’s purchase price range, understanding pre-qualifying vs. pre-approval for a mortgage, and understanding the roles of the lender, realtor, and title company, as well as the various steps involved in the homebuying process.

“We believe that housing is a human right,” said Denise Weathers, President & CEO, Genesys Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization that addresses the need for veteran housing for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers. “By collaborating with FCB, Guidewell Financial Solutions and local professionals, we hope to empower first-time homebuyers and veterans within the community with knowledge as well as greater access to services in banking, housing, education and development.”

Said Judy MacKenzie, Community Development Officer, Guidewell Financial Solutions, a non-profit organization that offers financial counselling services to the community, “We are excited to partner with Genesys CDC and FCB to assist families as they pursue their dreams of homeownership. Our HUD-approved Homebuyer Workshop will help eliminate the complexities of buying a home for first time homebuyers and veterans by covering all of the elements of the home buying process, from financial preparation and credit review to mortgage financing and closing.”

“We look forward to honouring our veterans and making a difference in their lives and those of their families by joining with our long-time partners Genesys and Guidewell in promoting greater financial literacy that will allow first-time homebuyers to realize their dreams, while supporting the efforts of keeping Fort Pierce Beautiful and its Restoring the Village revitalization program,” said Kent Ellert, President & CEO, Florida Community Bank.

Workshop registration is required, and seating is limited to the first 100 attendees. To register, call Guidewell Financial Service at 1-877-355-1763.
