Vanessa Zhang Fashion Incubator, which was directed and launched by Globe Fashion Week Inc., showcased Spring 2019 collection at New York Men's Day at CreativeDrive on July 9.
Vanessa Zhang Fashion Incubator is a fashion, talent development program that was founded by Vanessa Zhang and supported by Globe Fashion Week Inc. It seeks to support and foster promising fashion talents on a global scale. By offering professional coaching and the opportunity to access fashion resources worldwide, the incubator helps emerging designers develop and grow their businesses globally. In its first season, with ideas of embracing the purity of design and the celebration of where creativity stems from, three outstanding designers from the incubator, including Kevin Ng, Jiahao Wan and Han Xu, were selected to showcase their menswear collections during New York Fashion Week: Men's.

Unawares Spring/Summer 2019 collection breaks through the preconception of modern expression with inspiration from sharp industrial design, combined with structural elements from architecture, Japanese samurai and machinery. This collection also marks the bold application of leather throughout. Teal also makes sporadic appearances on the color palette, adding to the sense of fashion and vibrancy.

This menswear collection is originally inspired by Y2K culture, which was all about the fear of future technology. Today, many people appreciate technology as the new god. "I used a comical way to dress AI as a ghost. The driverless car is moving but no one's seated, and you ask no one in the air for 'what's the weather?' I imagined a universe where AI lives."

The collection is about the exploration of curve, light and color. The 3D curve presented by circus performers during the show was the starting point for the entire collection and made Han interested in exploring space curves and curvature and how to combine curves with pattern cutting.
