Ujamaa Place's 5th Annual "Celebrating Every Step Forward" Breakfast

By: PRLog
Ujamaa Place 5th Annual "Celebrating Every Step Forward Breakfast" in partnership with University of St. Thomas Office of Diversity and Inclusion taking place on October 11th at 7:30am in Anderson Student Center's Woulfe Hall
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Sept. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- Ujamaa Place is "Celebrating Every Step Forward" that Ujamaa men take to transform their lives.  In its eighth year of operations, Ujamaa Place has consistently focused on its core programming of transforming the lives of African American men, aged 18-30, who have experienced involvement with the criminal justice system.

At Ujamaa Place stabilization is accomplished through seven core programs that integrate cultural values of brotherhood, family and taking care of one another under its logic model called the "Theory of Transformation."  Each enrolled participant has an individual transformation plan (ITP), designed to meet the needs of each man at the time of enrollment.  Mentoring is provided by high context coaches that assist the men every step of the way through their journey.  Ujamaa men have experienced systemic poverty and trauma from living on the streets, therefore, every step forward is a celebration and recognition of the strength they possess from within.

At the end of June 2018, there were 374 men enrolled in the Theory of Transformation, 72% of the men were employed and 124 men were working towards their education and lived in stable housing subsidized by Ujamaa Place.

The annual breakfast is an opportunity to thank our many philanthropic and corporate partners who support the transformation programs, its long list of individual donors from the community who give generously, and the staff and service providers that give time, talent and love to help the men succeed. This year's keynote speaker is Dr. William C. Bell, President and CEO of Casey Family Programs.  The community is invited to support the need for Ujamaa Place to increase capacity to serve more men by donating online at: https://squareup.com/store/ujamaa-place
