Oregon, one of four Marijuana Recreational Use states, showed a 66% reduction in marijuana presence in fatal crashes in 2017 compared to 2016.
The other Recreational Use states, CA, CO, and WA, showed an increased presence in fatal crashes.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 13, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Drug testing of fatal crash drivers is not the problem, even though the percentage of fatal crash drivers tested for drugs is extremely low at 26.1%, one of the lowest in the US. Certainly, many of the 436 drivers with no valid drug test were likely to have used drugs including marijuana.
The testing protocol must have changed, with not testing or reporting marijuana presence as in the past. This change hides the true extent of the No.1 killer drug in fatal crashes.
"The change must be investigated and made known to Oregonians who have the right to know of the fatal consequences of marijuana legalization and use." Says Alfred Crancer, author of study.
