Dreamio makes their Indiegogo debut on Monday, October 22 to crowdfund the production of a phone case that captures 3D and VR videos and images. The entry-level 3D photography product will be the first of its kind on the market.
Dreamio’s case comes at a time when cell phones are eclipsing standalone cameras as primary photography tools. “A picture-perfect moment won’t always wait for you to fiddle with a ton of settings,” says Abbos Roohparvar, CEO of Dreamio, of the changing landscape.

3D cameras have been available to consumers for decades, but the cost and complexity of market offerings have prevented mainstream adoption. At $199, the Dreamio phone case is priced well below entry-level cameras to intrigue the average phone photographer. The company’s hyper-mobile vision is evident in the product hardiness—it’s drop-resilient, resistant to moisture, and contains a built-in, rechargeable battery. 4K video and a frame rate of 60fps add even more compelling reasons to ditching the bulk of a camera.
Developers will be provided access to Dreamio’s API for use with Apple’s ARkit and Google’s ARCore. “Our engineers are exploring applications for the phone case beyond capturing photo and video, such as 3D mapping, scanning and Mixed Reality game development. We want to see iOS and Android developers create and innovate a new era of applications”
Indiegogo backers will receive deep discounts to the retail price and access to the Dreamio app, which will provide users with free cloud storage. The company also has plans to offer phone cases for the latest iPhone, Galaxy, and Pixel devices, alongside headsets for best viewing. Roohparvar is hoping these perks will entice all cell phone owners to try 3D and VR photography. “Everyone can benefit from better-quality photos.
