Q: What does being a consumer choice award winner mean to you? How did winning the Consumer Choice Award impact your business?
A: I was pleasantly surprised to be told that I, my staff and my office were awarded, first 2018, then the 2019 award as best optometric office in our area. It has added a degree of status to our online attraction.
Q: What is one major decision you make on a daily basis?
A: Not so much the decision but the observation that no matter how hectic the office can become, I have always loved and still love what I do and the people I do it with and those we do it for.
Q: What would you like to ask other leaders when you get the chance?
A: To all our leaders I ask simply, " Would your mother be proud of what you are doing?"
Q: What makes your business unique in the market?
A: We have always emphasized the well-being of our patients over the sale of spectacles and contact lenses to them.
Q: What makes you/your company successful?
A: I'm not sure I can answer that question easily. Much of the success comes from our ability to help patients when they needed it. Some of comes from a love of people and I feel patients are aware of that on some level. And some of it unknown. We have never concentrated on income but let that follow patient satisfaction. We, as a team, have always emphasized our patients' health and welfare above all else.
GETTING TO KNOW DR. BARRY WINTER:
If you could only use ONE word to describe yourself, what would it be?... Caring, maybe intense, maybe involved
If you could see any artist dead or alive performing, who would it be?... My wife, Lucille. She has turned the reception area into a unique show studio of her work.
What age do you wish you could permanently be? And why?... About 40. All things are growing and getting better. The marriage is solid, the children are growing up healthy, the practice is well on its way and growing and I know and am comfortable with who I am.
Where is your dream vacation destination/place?... Been there and done that. I have travelled to far lands and seen marvellous human endeavour: the Great Wall of China, The cathedrals of Europe North Ontario, but nothing comes close to the safari in Africa where nature is on display.
What is your favourite quote?... I wept because I had no shoes, then met a man who had no feet.
