Infrasense Collects Ground Penetrating Radar Data on Every Local Road in Barrie, Ontario

By: via PRWeb

In early May, Infrasense conducted a ground penetrating radar survey on all 2,055 local roads in Barrie, Ontario. The survey resulted in continuous, high resolution subsurface pavement layer thickness data for all local roadways.

BARRIE, Ontario (PRWEB) July 09, 2019

Infrasense completed a 3-day, non-destructive pavement thickness survey of 2,055 local roads, totaling 320 miles of data, collected at 10 scans per meter, in the City of Barrie, Ontario. The survey provided the client with pavement thickness data along the centerline of each road. Pavement layer thickness reports were provided to StreetScan, who was contracted by the City of Barrie to provide a comprehensive assessment of their entire road network. StreetScan conducted a parallel surface condition survey and assisted Infrasense by providing optimized routes on a GPS device to minimize dead-heading during data collection. The GPR survey was conducted at driving speed by a 2-person Infrasense team with no closures, no disruption to traffic, and zero impact to the integrity of the road.

The GPR data collection system included a single 2 GHz horn antenna and a SIR-30 control unit, both manufactured by GSSI in the United States. The survey results included the layer thickness values in spreadsheet format along with stationing and GPS coordinates.

The GPR pavement surveys are carried out according to ASTM D4748-10. The resulting data shows a cross-sectional slice of the pavement strata at various offsets. Each slice includes the surface, and any material change in the first few feet below the surface. Resulting pavement thickness data were displayed to the City of Barrie in Streetlogix, StreetScan’s web-based GIS software.
