The LivABLE Environment Conference is an online trade event that aims to highlight the need for design and construction changes by connecting people from across the industry. The digital conference hopes to prompt discussion that will inspire innovation and positive changes in living design to make it more accessible. As a keynote speaker, Tracy Schmitt will bring the benefit of her personal experiences to the trade show to help motivate others to see what is possible.

Disability affects approximately 15% of the world’s population in one form or another, yet despite these figures, design and architecture are often focused primarily on the more abled-bodied population. The LivABLE Environment Conference and Tracy Schmitt aim to raise the awareness of the need for changes to provide accessible design in homes that caters to all stages of life, including those who are disabled, as well as the elderly, and the young.

Tracy Schmitt, who is also known as ‘Unstoppable Tracy’ hopes that her opening keynote speech, ‘Ride the Wave of Possibility’ will help inspire others. In her speech, she will discuss how overcoming her own obstacles as a quadruple amputee led to her winning a bronze medal in alpine downhill para-skiing at the Ontario Parasport Games and being inducted into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

In her keynote address, Tracy will also present her own experiences with residential design, giving the attending designers, builders, developers, and architects the benefit of her personal first-hand insight into how changes are necessary and how through collaboration, more inclusive design is possible.

The LivABLE Environment Conference runs from October 28th to October 30th and aims to bring people from all parts of the world together. The event will host over thirty speakers from diverse areas of the industry, including wellness, development, and construction, to initiate a global conversation on the changes needed to support living in place and wellness in the home.
