Multi-state operation reunites daughter with dad

By: Issuewire

Chicago, Jan 4, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - A father was frantic.

He had an infant daughter, whom he feared his ex-girlfriend would physically abuse. After all, the ex-girlfriend smacked dad in the face a few times, according to court documents, and now the Department of Children and Family Services was investigating possible abuse by the ex of another child in her home. Then, the ex-girlfriend disappeared - vanished - with this man's child.

"This dad came to me to get himself and his daughter covered by an order of protection, and to find his little girl," says Fathers' Rights attorney Jeffery M. Leving. "We succeeded on both counts. We presented this case in court, and with skilled strategic planning and advocacy, we won an order of protection for father and child. But orders of protection don't enforce themselves. It was up to us to find this little girl and reunite her with dad so he could protect her."

Leving will talk about the case on his weekly radio show, the Dads Rights Legal Hour, 9-10 a.m. CST Saturday, Jan. 9 on Power 92.3 FM in Chicago.

Leving and his legal team started the search from scratch. Dad suspected his ex and child were out of state, but he had little solid information to go on, and there was great urgency to protect this child. Fortunately, the Leving team was able to develop an inside source who bit by bit helped narrow down the infant girl's whereabouts.

Dad traveled to recover his daughter several states away, an operation that had to be handled carefully. The father could have been incorrectly subject to an AMBER alert, had this not been done precisely, with private detectives on the case in both states, and with law enforcement standing by to intervene on dad's behalf, if needed.

The operation was a success. "We orchestrated private detectives in two states, a court in one state, a traveling father and out-of-state law enforcement, and we got dad and daughter reunited. Dad and his little girl are now back home, safe," Leving says.

Leving says this victory, modified for broadcast, is extraordinary. "My mission is to protect children," he says. "In this case, winning in court wasn't enough. We had to follow through with sleuthing as you'd see on TV. Dad is relieved, to say the least, and I'm gratified that we helped at this crucial time."

Leving also will speak on the radio about the grave injustice of wrongful convictions - in the interest of justice, of course, and because he understands the harm that incarceration can do to fathers and their children. "It is a tragedy when a family is torn apart by a wrongful conviction and incarceration," he says. "I know: Wrongfully jailed men who've been exonerated have called me for assistance with their family situations, and I've helped them pick up the pieces. No one should be jailed for a crime they didn't commit."
