On March 21, 2006, Washington Federal, Inc. (the "Company")
announced by press release that Barbara Smith, Ph.D., has been named to the
Board of Directors of the Company and its subsidiary, Washington Federal
Savings. Dr. Smith's appointment is effective April 24, 2006. A copy of
the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
