On October 3, 2002, Xcel Energy announced its wholly owned subsidiary, NRG Energy, Inc. is considering third quarter 2002 write-downs or abandonments. Such events could reduce Xcel Energy’s common equity as a percent of total consolidated capitalization below the minimum allowed by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
