Manga Productions, a subsidiary of Mohammed bin Salman Foundation “Misk”, has announced a strategic partnership with Bilibili, an iconic brand and a leading video community for young generations in China. The collaboration encompasses three key initiatives: streaming of the Saudi anime series Asateer2: Future’s Folktales on Bilibili; distribution of selected Chinese animated titles by Manga Productions across the Middle East, and a first-ever joint production model for Bilibili’s flagship animated short film collection CAPSULES.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in Manga Productions’ ongoing efforts to globalize the Saudi and Arab creative content, particularly in China – one of the world’s largest and most dynamic digital entertainment markets. As one of China's leading video platforms, Bilibili’s 109 million daily active users provide substantial reach for this initiative.
The partnership launched earlier last month with the premiere of Asateer2: Future’s Folktales on Bilibili, marking the series’ debut to Chinese audiences. This follows the global success of its first season, which garnered over 100 million views across more than 40 platforms worldwide. The collaboration also includes future initiatives to localize selected Chinese animations for Middle Eastern audiences, as well as joint productions to foster Sino-Saudi Arabia cultural exchange while nurturing young and creative talent in both countries.
Notably, the 2022 Saudi animated film The Journey – the first Saudi-Arab production featured on Bilibili – more than 30,000 users followed the series and it reached nearly 2 million views within a month. Its Mandarin version, featuring Jackie Chan, resonated strongly with Chinese audiences.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Essam Bukhary, CEO of Manga Productions, said: "We are proud to collaborate with Bilibili, one of the most prominent digital platforms in China. This partnership aligns with Manga Productions’ ongoing efforts to export high-quality Saudi creative content to global audiences. It also represents an important step in strengthening cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and China, while expanding the international distribution of our works. At Manga Productions, we are committed to investing in national talent and enabling Saudi youth in content publishing and distribution by providing them with opportunities to participate in global projects that reflect our cultural identity and creative potential".
Mr. Zhang Shengyan, Vice President of Bilibili, commented:" We are honored to partner with Manga Productions, which is a pioneer creative content company in the Middle East. We are excited to introduce outstanding Saudi animation to Chinese audiences — a significant step in fostering cultural exchange and deepening animation collaboration between China and Saudi Arabia. Looking ahead, we aim to strengthen cooperation between both countries’ young talents, bring Chinese animations to Middle Eastern audiences, and explore broader co-production opportunities with Manga Productions".
Eng. Abdulaziz Alnaghmoosh, Business Development and Content Licensing Director at Manga Productions, added: “Our partnership with Bilibili is a key step in bringing Saudi content to China, one of the world’s largest entertainment markets. It opens new doors for collaboration and helps us expand globally with stories that reflect our identity”.
