UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 9, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Augustus F. Brown, J.D., for his legal excellence. Mr. Brown is a distinguished trial attorney and legal educator with five decades of dedication to personal injury litigation, workers' compensation and criminal defense. As a member of Pessin Katz Law PA, he continues to influence the legal field through his trial work and commitment to teaching the next generation of lawyers.

A Family Tradition in Law
Mr. Brown comes from a long line of attorneys. In 1901, his grandfather founded the Brown firm. In 1946, his father took over, and his paternal uncle soon joined the firm. Despite this rich family history of legal practice, Mr. Brown, sparked by an interest in journalism, initially earned a bachelor's degree in English literature and philosophy from Villanova University, Pennsylvania, in 1971. However, a conversation with a counselor led him to law school. By 1974, he had earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
After clerking with Judge William J. O'Donnell in the Maryland Court of Appeals, Mr. Brown joined Brown, Brown & Lanahan. From 1976 to 1985, he excelled as an associate attorney. During the early stages of his career, he handled major criminal cases. "I've tried six or eight murder cases," he says. "I've won half of them, including big drug cases, as well as robbery and theft cases."
High-stakes cases dominated the first 25 years of Mr. Brown's career. However, a shift took place midway. Over the last 25 years, serious injury cases have become the focus. The driving force behind his trial work is fighting for justice for injured clients.
Helping Other Attorneys Succeed
Mr. Brown's passion for litigation stems from his academic background in literature and drama. The dramatic intensity of courtrooms is what pulled him into trial law. Although he remains active in litigation, this award-winning attorney finds immense satisfaction as a teacher and facilitator.
"I guess the thing that really floats my boat is teaching trial skills to other lawyers and facilitating jury focus groups for them," Mr. Brown says. Over the years, he has been a presenter, faculty member and moderator at hundreds of legal education programs. Since 2005, he has owned Jury Research Services and worked as a trial consultant. In this capacity, he helps attorneys refine their case strategies.
A Legal Education Devotee
Mr. Brown is an avid learner who believes in strengthening his skill set. "To enhance my work skills, I always wanted to participate in organizations with robust, continuous legal education programs," he says. To this end, he has played a critical role in legal organizations.
In the past, Mr. Brown served as president of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association (now the Maryland Association for Justice, Inc.) and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys' Association. Additionally, he was on the board of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) (now American Association for Justice) for more than eight years.
A Lifetime of Recognition and Future Goals
Mr. Brown has received numerous accolades. These recognitions include the Best Lawyers of America Award from Martindale-Hubbell and membership in the Heuisler Honor Society for academic excellence. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. As he reflects on his career, he attributes his success to his passion for justice, hard work and disdain for intolerance.
At some point, Mr. Brown aims to take gradual steps away from daily litigation. However, he looks forward to expanding his work with jury focus groups. Meanwhile, recreational pursuits take center stage outside of work. "To blend work with recreation is important," he says. "My experience with recreation has always drawn me to the outdoors." When he's not working, he enjoys trap and skeet shooting, pistol competitions, fishing and golf.
With a career spanning 50 years, Mr. Brown remains a respected leader in the legal profession. The impact he's had on personal injury litigation, criminal defense and legal education has provided a blueprint for future trial lawyers fighting for justice.
