Independent Music Producer Advocates for Self-Reliance, Long-Term Strategy, and Empowering Underserved Youth
ST. CROIX, USVI / ACCESS Newswire / August 29, 2025 / Independent music producer and sync licensing advocate Thomas Marra is calling on creators, students, and aspiring entrepreneurs to redefine how they measure success-and to stop waiting for permission to build the life they want.
Marra, whose music has been featured on Love Is Blind (Netflix) and MLB Network broadcasts, is best known for his practical, self-built approach to breaking into the music industry without traditional gatekeepers.
"Success isn't loud," Marra says. "It's not always viral. Sometimes it's your song playing under dialogue on a show you didn't even know picked it up-and realizing your work is quietly speaking for you."
Raised in Levittown, NY and now living and working between Brightwaters and St. Croix, USVI, Marra credits both environments for shaping his mindset: the work ethic of his suburban roots, and the calm clarity of life in the islands.
The Big Picture
According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, over 80% of small business owners say they started with little to no external funding. Meanwhile, more than 60% of Gen Z creators feel overwhelmed by the pressure to build a personal brand before developing real skills (Adobe Future of Creativity Study, 2024).
Marra's story is different:
No label. No viral moment. No major manager.
He built a catalog of emotionally rich, sync-ready music using Trello boards, metadata tagging, and daily routines.
His first Netflix placement came not from a cold pitch, but from quietly building and organizing a professional music library over time.
"I just focused on making real music that felt like something," he says. "You don't need to go viral-you need to be ready."
Giving Back & Going Local
Marra also uses his voice to advocate for underserved youth. For over a decade, he's donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters and previously taught community education programs in high-crime areas.
"Some kids think they don't have options," he says. "But sometimes all it takes is hearing that someone sees potential in you-especially from someone who's walked a different road."
Now, he and his wife Colleen are opening a functional medicine practice in St. Croix, offering services like PRP, hormone therapy, hydration, and massage therapy. For Thomas, it's a way to be involved in holistic health and serve the island community they now call home.
What You Can Do
Marra isn't asking for donations or followers. His message is simpler-and harder:
Finish the song. Don't wait for it to be perfect.
Treat your art like a business. Use systems. Stay organized.
Stop chasing someone else's definition of success.
Give back when you can. Start small. Stay consistent.
"The first time your song lands in a real scene, it won't be because someone handed it to you," Marra says. "It'll be because you did the work. Quietly. Day after day."
