The Trade Desk CEO, Jeff Green, Signs The Giving Pledge

Commits to Give Away at Least 90% of Wealth in His Lifetime

Jeff Green, the founder and CEO of The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD), today signed the Giving Pledge. In doing so, Mr. Green commits to give away at least 90 percent of his wealth in his lifetime or at his death. Mr. Green’s Giving Pledge letter outlines his reasons for making this decision, and his philanthropic plans.

The giving arm of Mr. Green’s family foundation, Dataphilanthropy, will administer his charitable activity. Dataphilanthropy will focus on initiatives where hypotheses can be developed and tested with data, and then scaled based on performance and with the active involvement of key stakeholders.

Initial investments have included a mentoring scholarship program at Cal-State Channel Islands University that helps students stay in school and graduate. Based on an analysis of drop-out data, the program has improved graduation rates by helping students avoid key events that tend to lead to withdrawal. Similarly, Dataphilanthropy has also provided scholarships to children and teenagers struggling with cancer, through the Ruth Cheatham Foundation, in order to help them stay in education during and after treatment. Encouragingly, many of the scholarship recipients have been inspired to pursue medical fields in higher education.

“Unfortunately, many people today face a significant disparity of opportunity – whether it’s access to education, the right mentors, or work experiences. I believe these opportunities can be critical in determining whether someone is successful or whether they struggle in life,” said Mr. Green. “I plan to focus on areas where I can improve access to those opportunities for as many people as possible, and in doing so improve their odds.”

Founded by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett, the Giving Pledge is a commitment by billionaires to give away the majority of their wealth to help solve some of society’s most pressing problems. Launched in 2010 with 40 participants in the United States, the Giving Pledge today has more than 200 pledgers globally.
