Latino Community Foundation Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery Grants Surpass $2 Million

A second round of grants, totaling $1 million, brings total funding for direct relief to individuals, families, and community and grassroots organizations to over $2 million

In response to the devastating wildfires that have affected thousands of families in Los Angeles, the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) today announces an additional $1 million in grants from its California Wildfire and Disaster Relief Fund, bringing its total investment from the Fund to $2.1 million. These grants include resources for rental assistance, culturally rooted mental health services, and continued direct cash assistance to benefit vulnerable communities impacted by the fires.

"Philanthropy must continue to lead as Los Angeles rebuilds and recovers. We must act swiftly to prevent a compounding economic and housing crisis," said Julián Castro, CEO of the Latino Community Foundation. "By investing in organizations that are prioritizing tenant rights and immediate financial relief for immigrant, Latino, Black, and AAPI communities, we are helping to ensure that no vulnerable families are left behind in this recovery."

LCF is providing more than $700,000 of additional direct cash assistance and financial relief for day laborers, domestic workers, street vendors, and small business owners. This funding will also enable grantees to provide tenant protections, worker rights, culturally rooted mental health services, and youth and family services.

Working with community-based partners, LCF is both addressing urgent needs and laying the foundation for a sustained long-term, just recovery process. Its grantees are trusted organizations in their communities and the cornerstone of a broader effort to build civic power. As the LA region rebuilds and recovers from January’s wildfires, these community leaders will lead on tenant rights advocacy, multi-racial coalition building, and other social and economic justice efforts.

To date, LCF’s California Wildfire and Disaster Relief Fund has raised more than $5 million from foundation partners and from more than 2,000 donors across the nation that have contributed an average of $88.32 to the Fund.
