Awarded through FHLB Dallas member institutions, SNAP provides grants for the repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing of eligible, special-needs individuals such as homeowners who are elderly or disabled.

“My house was super hot in the summer and super cold in the winter,” Ms. Castillo said. “Financially, I would not have been able to make these changes without the grant.”

Ms. Castillo manages several medical conditions. She lives in her Dallas, Texas, home with her granddaughter, two great grandchildren and two dogs. Now retired, Ms. Castillo worked in various roles at a global technology company for 30 years.

“We are proud to be longstanding members of FHLB Dallas,” said Melanie Goodman, Veritex Community Bank senior vice president and CRA officer. “Together, we’re creating opportunities that strengthen our communities, making support accessible when it’s needed most.”

Since 2012, Veritex has awarded $382,000 in FHLB Dallas SNAP grants.

“Veritex has seen the positive impact this program can provide to people in need, and we value our strong relationship with them,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and Director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas.

More than $28 million has been awarded to households in FHLB Dallas’ District of Arkansas, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas since SNAP’s 2009 creation.

“I’m very thankful for this program,” said Ms. Castillo. “It’s truly a blessing.”
