Belmont Village Senior Living Celebrates National Senior Citizens Day by Honoring Residents’ Community Impact and Engagement

Residents find purpose and connection through philanthropic events and service-focused initiatives

In honor of National Senior Citizens Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the achievements and contributions of older adults, Belmont Village Senior Living is spotlighting the powerful role older adults play in shaping, inspiring, and enriching the world around them. Across 35 communities nationwide, residents participate in vibrant, purpose-driven philanthropic initiatives, and are leading the way in giving back, connecting across generations, and celebrating what it means to age with purpose.

“National Senior Citizens Day is more than a celebration, it’s a reminder of the profound contributions older adults make every day,” said Patricia Will, Founder & CEO of Belmont Village Senior Living. “At Belmont Village, we see firsthand how our residents continue to inspire, lead, and give back in ways that enrich our communities. Whether through mentorship, volunteerism, or creative expression, their voices and actions make a lasting impact. This day is an opportunity for all of us to recognize the invaluable wisdom, resilience, and spirit that older adults bring to our world.”

Senior citizens are among the most generous age groups, giving back through both charitable donations and volunteerism. In 2021, adults 65+ accounted for 28.6% of all volunteer hours in the U.S.—an increase from 18.5% in 2018. Baby Boomers also stand out for their commitment to community service, rating high alongside Generation X in giving back to their communities. Beyond the social impact, this engagement benefits their own well-being: one study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that adults over 50 who volunteered over 100 hours annually saw improved physical and mental health.

Belmont Village champions the idea that volunteerism enriches communities and enhances the lives of older adults. Through its Belmont Blooms initiative, the organization fosters connection, purpose, and meaningful impact in its local communities. Each year, Belmont Blooms encourages residents to explore sustainability through creative, community-focused initiatives, ranging from farm-to-table dining and upcycling projects to sustainable fashion shows. The program’s innovative approach to environmental and social awareness was recognized with the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award.

This year’s Belmont Blooms initiative focused on volunteerism and ongoing partnerships with local nonprofits. In the Spring, Belmont Village communities hosted elegant events to celebrate residents’ year-round volunteerism through film. Inspired by the glamour of the Cannes Film Festival, Belmont Village residents and staff filmed and produced short films spotlighting residents' service and charitable work and debuted the films in a red-carpet-style screening. These imaginative celebrations honored residents as the stars of their own stories, complete with awards, fundraising, and heartfelt moments. More than just recognition, the events deepened connections and raised awareness of older adults' roles in giving back and shaping their local communities.

“Our goal is to empower residents to lead purpose-driven lives, and these initiatives are a beautiful reflection of that mission,” said Adam Dimacali, Belmont Village Regional Vice President of Memory Care and Activity Programs. “From community service to creativity, our seniors continue to show that aging is not about slowing down, it’s about continuing to learn and make an impact.”
