West Chester, PA (July 22, 2024) — Weston Solutions, Inc. (Weston) was awarded a $1.3M task order to perform a PFAS-Focused Site Investigation (SI) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, under our Environmental Architectural and Engineering Services contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
This is the first large-scale/facility-wide PFAS SI undertaken by the FAA’s MMAC. Weston will be performing a multimedia-focused SI for PFAS contaminants, in accordance with CERCLA, within the boundaries of the FAA’s MMAC. The objective of the SI is to evaluate known or suspected PFAS releases that were identified by Weston during a previous preliminary assessment (PA), to determine if human health and/or environmental risks are occurring and if response actions are warranted, and to eliminate from further consideration those past releases that pose no significant threat to public health or the environment. Activities will include groundwater sampling from existing and newly installed monitoring wells and dewatering sumps; surface and subsurface soil sampling; sediment sampling; surface water, discharge outfall, and storm sewer sampling; and rainwater sampling for perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and GenX chemicals.
Weston will use our award-winning geospatial application that incorporates interactive spatial data analytics through enterprise (Web)-based visualization tools such as Geospatial Map Viewers to streamline decision making. These technologies centralize and spatially enable the available data for these complex multimedia site characterizations allowing for dynamic analysis of the data. We are advancing these technologies to also be the project delivery mechanism for updates to the Conceptual Site Model (CSM) aimed at presenting data in a more easily digestible and electronically accessible manner than the traditional 700-page standard, written CSM document.
Aimee Flanagan, Program Manager, states, “Weston had enjoyed a true partnership with our FAA client, working side-by-side to help solve the MMAC’s most complex environmental challenges. We look forward to continuing our partnership as we execute this important project for the FAA while also evaluating our entire project portfolio to explore ways of delivering more efficiencies during execution.”
Weston is proud of our record of service to the FAA’s MMAC since 1993, during which we have provided a wide spectrum of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW), engineering design, and compliance services. We look forward to continuing to serve the FAA for years to come.
