Professional Pickleball Player Career: Prizes & Sponsorship Deals Guide Launched

Experience Pickleball has released a new guide discussing the earning potential of professional players.

As the fastest-growing sport in the US, according to a recent CNN report, pickleball's professional scene remains in its infancy compared to tennis. While interest is rapidly increasing, the latest guide points to important factors aspiring pros should consider given the sport's developmental status.

Experience Pickleball explains that the game has rapidly evolved into a professional sport complete with major tournaments, sponsorships, and star athletes. This expansion includes the creation of team-based Major League Pickleball, the Professional Pickleball Association Tour, and the Association of Pickleball Professionals.

Despite this, the term 'professional' must be used loosely, the guide's author argues. Until recently, anyone could enter a tournament if they met the required entry fee. Now there is a growing collection of players who play the sport for a living.

A recent CBS feature highlighted that top pickleball professionals can earn about $1 million yearly when their prize money, sponsorship deals, and appearance fees are tallied. For these standout athletes, pickleball has proven to be a profitable career path.

Major League Pickleball projects it will award $5 million in total prize money across its six events this year. Meanwhile, the Professional Pickleball Association's calendar includes 25 pro tournaments offering over $5.5 million in winnings for 2023.

But the guide notes that players who are not in the very top echelon are likely to earn more modest amounts ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 annually. Lesser-known players may earn around $1,000 for smaller brand sponsorship deals.

The guide also explores additional routes for aspiring professionals. Offering coaching clinics, private lessons, product promotions, and hosting competitive events are all viable avenues. With online learning so prevalent, teaching newcomers the ropes of pickleball through virtual instruction is also an accessible option.

A spokesperson states: "If you're looking to try and make a profitable professional career in the sport, you might need to hold off from quitting your day job. The money earned by the top ranking players is definitely not a true representation of what every pickleball player earns."
