Taiwanese artist Chen Meng-Huan will soon exhibit her ink art at the Carrousel du Louvre, joining Kasashima Gallery’s themed project for Art Shopping 2025, exploring Eastern aesthetics through subtle contrasts of light, shadow, and emotion.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (MERXWIRE) – April 2025 promises to be a vibrant month for the arts in France, as the international contemporary art fair Art Shopping 2025 and the ART PARIS 2025 art exhibition are set to take place in early April at two iconic Parisian venues—the Carrousel du Louvre and the Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, respectively. At Art Shopping, Japan’s Kasashima Gallery will unveil a special themed project titled “La Beauté dans Chaque Éventail,” featuring 20 Asian artists who will express the aesthetics of Eastern art through creations on traditional Kyo folding fans.
This article introduces one of the participating artists of “La Beauté dans Chaque Éventail,” offering insight into her artistic philosophy and the distinctive features of her work. It aims to guide readers through the diverse facets of contemporary art and provide a glimpse into creative perspectives shaped by Asian cultural backgrounds. The featured artist in this report is Chen Meng-Huan.
Chen Meng-Huan, a painter who has long studied the aesthetic of shadows and the philosophy of black-and-white imagery, excels at capturing the subtle contrasts between light and darkness. Through ink painting, she masterfully renders variations in light and shadow, creating visual effects rich in both emotion and philosophical depth. Her works not only showcase delicate brushwork and well-defined composition but also use the fluidity and tonal variations of ink to evoke a unique atmosphere and artistic conception. In her paintings, black and white are not merely contrasting colors—they symbolize the interplay of time, space, and emotion, inviting viewers to experience a profound inner tension and boundless imagination within tranquil imagery.
The ink paintings “Falling Leaf” and “Tranquil Bloom” by artist Chen Meng-Huan draw inspiration from Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s acclaimed book “In Praise of Shadows.” Through the interplay of light and shadow, she creates a profound and mysterious visual effect that embodies the subtle beauty of ink. By skillfully manipulating layers and spatial depth, Chen reveals the refined elegance inherent in the medium. Within the darkness, it is only through careful observation that viewers can perceive the quiet beauty and vitality that emerge from these delicate details.
“Quietly Enjoy the Mountain Spirit” depicts the mountainous terrain and ridgelines of Lugu Township in Nantou County, Taiwan. In the painting, several small houses rest quietly among the mountains, as if silently watching over the serene land. Surrounded by layers of mountains and dense forests, the scene exudes a sense of calm and stillness, evoking the tranquility and harmony of a place where time appears to stand still. In addition to her refined ink wash techniques, the artist skillfully uses composition to create a rich sense of layering and dimensionality, giving the work greater depth and visual tension.
Invited by Kasashima Gallery to participate in the themed project “La Beauté dans Chaque Éventail,” Chen Meng-Huan is set to exhibit digital reproductions of her works from this series. In the art-filled city of Paris, she will showcase the unique techniques and artistic style of Eastern ink painting.
From April 4 to April 6, 2025, Kasashima Gallery’s themed project “La Beauté dans Chaque Éventail” will be exhibited at the Carrousel du Louvre alongside hundreds of artists from around the world. This exhibition is not only a grand occasion for international artistic exchange but also a rare opportunity to explore the essence of Eastern art. All art enthusiasts are warmly invited to attend and experience this meticulously curated artistic celebration.
