The Chicago Teachers Union Took a Stand for Better Assistance — These Are Some of the Contract Demands

By: NewsUSA

(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) - The Chicago Teachers Union is negotiating a new contract with the local government. Among the demands highlighted in the proposal are housing and financial assistance for teachers. New and old teachers can apply for financial aid so they can live and work in the city. The union also wants to house students experiencing homelessness.

Unfortunately, Chicago will be under a budget deficit of $538 million for 2024. Things can still look up for the CTU, however. The current mayor, Brandon Johnson, was a former teacher and union organizer. As such, it is expected that the CTU’s voices will be heard or at least receive adequate assistance and a fair negotiation.
