Supernova Parenting Featured in Groundbreaking Documentary "Navigating Autism in Communities of Color" Premiering in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA - March 7, 2024 - PRLog -- Supernova Parenting, an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to empowering caregivers of families facing mental illness and/or intellectual developmental disabilities, is thrilled to announce their prominent role in the highly anticipated documentary "Navigating Autism in Communities of Color." Produced and directed by the esteemed School of History and Sociology and the School of Literature Media and Communication at Georgia Tech, in collaboration with The Color of Autism Foundation, the documentary will have its exclusive premiere at the highly anticipated event in Atlanta, Georgia on March 22nd.

In this groundbreaking documentary, Supernova Parenting CEO Natasha Nelson, known affectionately as Supernova Momma, shares her profound experiences and insights. She states, "It is an honor to be part of 'Navigating Autism in Communities of Color.' This documentary shines a much-needed light on the challenges faced by Black caregivers and the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments. I hope this film will inspire empathy, understanding, and action in our society."

Producer Jennifer Singh, from the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech, expresses her passion for the project, saying, "Our goal with this documentary is to amplify the voices of Black caregivers and bring attention to the unique struggles they face in navigating autism. By sharing their stories, we aim to foster greater understanding, acceptance, and support for families of color in our society."

"Navigating Autism in Communities of Color" provides a poignant exploration of the challenges faced by Black caregivers in obtaining a diagnosis, accessing essential services, and advocating for children with autism. Through the compelling narratives of six Black families and expert contributions from the field, the documentary sheds light on the unique struggles of navigating autism in a society marked by systemic inequality, while emphasizing the unwavering determination for equal access and support.

Camille Proctor, the founder and executive director of The Color of Autism Foundation, adds, "We are proud to be part of this powerful documentary that highlights the experiences of Black caregivers. By collaborating with Supernova Parenting and the talented team at Georgia Tech, we aim to raise awareness and create a more inclusive society where all families facing autism receive the support they need."
