Certified SEO founder Damon Burton reacts to Google's AI landing page patent. He says it could make human-driven content, blogs, and personal brands even more valuable.

A Google patent describing AI-generated landing pages tailored to individual search queries is stirring concern across the SEO industry. Damon Burton, founder of Certified SEO and an SEO educator and author, is not hiding his reaction. While the concept is not currently live in Google Search, the patent has triggered fresh debate about whether search engines could one day reduce the role of traditional website links by serving dynamically generated experiences instead.
Burton recently addressed the issue in his SEO marketing course community, where he said the development reinforces the need for deeper, forward-looking education that reflects how search is changing. “Just commented on this in my SEO group,” said Burton. “Wild, but not surprising. While I think it’s gross, that won’t stop it from happening.”
The patent describes a system in which search platforms could generate landing pages based on a user’s query, intent signals, and behavioral context rather than directing searchers to an actual web page. For many SEO professionals, that raises questions about traffic ownership, brand control, and the future of visibility in a search ecosystem increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
Burton said he has long acknowledged AI’s growing role in search, which is one reason he sees rising value in an AI SEO course that helps marketers understand both technical change and strategic adaptation. “I’ve never denied the potential for AI to have an increasing influence on the world of SEO,” he said. “But I’ve always countered that the human element is the differentiating factor. THIS amplifies my argument.”
Rather than viewing the patent only as a threat, Burton believes it may also sharpen the competitive value of distinctly human content. If AI-generated experiences become more common, he expects businesses and creators to lean harder into perspective, personality, and originality to stand out in a digital environment where generic content is easier to produce at scale.
“I could see this increasing the demand for blogs and personal brands,” Burton added. “Because when everything becomes average, and AI tends to move toward the median, people want more unique storytelling, human touch, and human relatability.”
As AI continues to influence the discovery and presentation of information, Burton says marketers should prepare for a future where technical SEO still matters, but trust, voice, and human perspective may become even more valuable.
