Apria Provides Support to Hundreds of Patients Affected by Louisiana Floods

In the wake of the recent southeastern Louisiana floods – one of the most devastating natural disasters in the U.S. since Hurricane Sandy – Apria Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest home healthcare companies, has been unwavering in its efforts to serve hundreds of critical respiratory patients in the affected Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas.

Since the flooding began on August 11, the local Apria branch has activated its emergency preparedness protocols, conducted around-the-clock outreach to more than 700 patients with potentially damaged respiratory equipment, and travelled through dangerous conditions to bring much-needed equipment to these displaced families. The team remains determined and optimistic in its efforts to continue helping patients in need – even those not currently serviced by Apria. Last week, the team brought equipment to 35 displaced patients in shelters and hospitals, and anticipates delivering another 100 pieces of equipment in the coming week.

“We’ve been so proud of our team’s efforts during these trying times,” said Quiana Cruz, Branch Manager, Baton Rouge and Lafayette. “Several of our employees’ homes have also been damaged, but they all continue to come to work and lend a hand to displaced patients in need. It’s truly inspiring to see the resilience of our employees and the community around us.”

Nationally, Apria has also put forward a company-wide effort to provide emergency assistance for employees in the area, and has created a GoFundMe fundraiser event for those interested in making a donation. Apria has promised to match employee donations up to a total of $50,000 for direct assistance to impacted employees.

“For the team at Apria, it’s all about our patients,” said Steven Hill, Market Vice President. “I’ve seen our regional teams coming together across all branches to find ways to get out to our patients – by car, truck, even canoe – whatever it takes. Right now, our mission is to put our patients first and continue to help in any way we can.”
